My Destined Consort Plot Summary

Episode 1

Shen Jiangli, under the orders of the Lord of Dongzhou, is married to the second young master of the Lu family, Lu Jingming. Their early days are marked by mutual support and affection, but the harsh realities of life within the inner household soon become apparent. As border conflicts escalate, the Lord commands Lu Jingming to leave immediately for the mansion to discuss military matters. Within three days, Lu Jingming gathers supplies and troops and rushes to the battlefield, leaving Shen Jiangli behind.

While he fights for the country, Shen Jiangli is framed for a crime she did not commit. Her mother-in-law, Lady Shu, locks her in the ancestral tomb as punishment. The true culprit is eventually revealed to be Wang Danling, the eldest daughter-in-law, who resents Shen Jiangli for marrying Lu Jingming and is herself behind the poisoning of Lady Shu and the destruction of her own beauty. Wang Danling humiliates Shen Jiangli in the pouring rain, mocking her fate and assuring her she will remain in the ancestral tomb forever. Shen Jiangli, bruised and heartbroken, cries alone, missing Lu Jingming and not knowing if or when he will return.

The Lord of Dongzhou is chronically ill, and his condition does not improve. Wang Danling organizes a seven-day prayer ceremony for him, gathering the entire family. The mansion is tense with friction and dissatisfaction. During a heated argument between Wang Danling and the second lady, a coffin mysteriously appears in the courtyard, heightening the eerie atmosphere. At this moment, Shen Jiangli slowly pushes open the gate and steps in, having spent years trapped in the ancestral tomb with no place in the mansion. Wang Danling is initially frightened by her sudden appearance but quickly becomes furious, demanding to know why Shen Jiangli has returned.

Shen Jiangli exposes Wang Danling’s true motives: the prayer ceremony was not for the Lord’s health but for Wang Danling’s own fertility. She reveals that Wang Danling secretly performed fertility rituals, placing a statue of the Child-giving Bodhisattva behind the Medicine God and setting up a ritual formation in the courtyard. When servants find the ritual objects, Wang Danling is left speechless. Her nurse offers to take the blame to protect her, hoping for leniency from the Lord. Shen Jiangli helps the second lady embarrass Wang Danling, earning respect for her efforts. The second lady suggests to the Lord that Shen Jiangli should stay in the mansion tonight, and Shen Jiangli finally secures her place in the household.

Returning to her old residence, Shen Jiangli is moved by the desolation. Five years earlier, heavily pregnant and desperate, she had crawled through the rain to Dingfeng Pavilion, where a young doctor saved her and her child. Though she is not someone who seeks revenge for every slight, the experience of nearly losing her life is something she cannot forget. She vows to reclaim everything she has lost, especially from those who have repeatedly tried to harm her.

Episode 2

Shen Jiangli’s sudden return astonishes Lu Jingming, who orders his subordinates to investigate her life over the past years. The old nanny assigned to watch Shen Jiangli at the ancestral tomb has been negligent and knows nothing about her nighttime returns or current circumstances. It is clear that Shen Jiangli has endured hardship. Lu Jingming sighs, realizing he may have misunderstood her in the past. Wang Danling, furious at being exposed, secretly arranges for an assassin to kill Shen Jiangli. However, Lu Jingming happens to be nearby and saves Shen Jiangli’s life. The assassin, fearing punishment, commits suicide, and the case is left unresolved. Lu Jingming learns the whole story and understands the dangers within the Lu mansion.

He recalls how, five years earlier, his mother accused Shen Jiangli of poisoning and he sent her to guard the tomb. At the time, Shen Jiangli neither defended herself nor explained, as if her heart was already dead. Now, reflecting on the incident, Lu Jingming sees many inconsistencies. Shen Jiangli, as the legitimate daughter of the Shen family, was pure and kind at the time of marriage and would never use such despicable means. Yet, he wonders why she did not explain herself. Once, he overheard Shen Jiangli expressing her weariness with the scheming in the mansion and her desire to leave.

While protecting Shen Jiangli, Lu Jingming is injured. His mother, upon hearing this, immediately slaps Shen Jiangli twice, showing her fierce protectiveness over her son. Shen Jiangli remains calm, and Lu Jingming intervenes, causing his mother to leave. In her spare time, Shen Jiangli again asks Lu Jingming for the Thunder Pill, a life-saving medicine, but does not reveal whom she intends to save. She only insists that once their deal is done, he must keep his promise. The two part ways, and Lu Jingming watches Shen Jiangli’s determined back with mixed feelings. He once hoped to live in harmony with her and grow old together, but now he does not understand how things have come to this.

Shen Jiangli moves back into the Lu mansion. The eldest son of the Lu family questions Lu Jingming about his plans for Shen Jiangli. Lu Jingming does not object to her staying, and Shen Jiangli asserts that this is a family matter and outsiders have no right to interfere. In the past, Shen Jiangli seemed indifferent to everything, but now she begins to fight back and no longer suffers injustice in silence.

Lu Jingming’s brother, wary of his younger brother’s military achievements, tries to test him by inviting him to admire a sword. Lu Jingming, recognizing the scabbard, hides his emotions and feigns ignorance, saying he has been indulging in banquets and cannot tell good from bad. Later, his brother quietly tells Wang Danling that the sword was Lu Jingming’s, reminding him of a painful memory from the battlefield when he fell into an enemy trap and was nearly wiped out.

Shen Jiangli tells Lu Jingming that only she can cure his chronic illness. To provide a quiet environment for treatment, she asks him to restore her status so that people will not focus on her every day and try to harm her. Lu Jingming agrees without hesitation.

Episode 3

The next day, sunlight fills the courtyard of the Lu mansion. Lu Jingming gathers everyone and announces that his wife has returned and will now manage household affairs, officially restoring Shen Jiangli’s status as the second young mistress. Although everyone has their own thoughts, they must obey the master’s decision. Lu Jingming, busy with official duties, leaves the mansion to train the troops.

As a newcomer, Shen Jiangli knows she must establish her authority. She stands before everyone and promises to handle all matters fairly, offering generous gifts. She remembers the pain inflicted by some old nannies in the courtyard and now seeks to give them a “reminder.” She publicly calls out the nanny who mistreated her, placing chicken bones on the table—a cruel reminder of the past when the nanny secretly replaced Shen Jiangli’s food with chicken bones and made her assemble the skeleton. The nanny trembles with fear, but Shen Jiangli publicly repays evil with kindness, giving her only a gentle warning. Everyone breathes a sigh of relief and shows more respect for Shen Jiangli.

After winning people’s hearts, Shen Jiangli begins to plan her next steps. Her son is still sick, and she needs to quickly settle matters so she can obtain the Thunder Pill for him.

While handling official business, Lu Jingming happens to rescue a smart little boy stuck in a dog hole. The boy’s milky voice softens Lu Jingming’s heart, and after being rescued, the boy returns to the courtyard, calling Shen Jiangli “mother.” Lu Jingming is shocked. If the boy calls Shen Jiangli mother, does this mean the child is his? Shen Jiangli does not hide the truth: the five-year-old boy is her son. Five or six years have passed, and Lu Jingming cannot be sure if the child’s birth is related to him.

At night, Shen Jiangli performs acupuncture on Lu Jingming as agreed. The process is painful, but Shen Jiangli urges him to endure it. The child has a hidden illness and cannot sleep soundly. Shen Jiangli is anxious and decides to see Master Zhuge immediately to obtain the Thunder Pill. She writes a visiting card and goes to see him in person. Master Zhuge suffers from severe halitosis, which Shen Jiangli diagnoses at a glance. She promises to cure him with her medicine. After taking it, Master Zhuge’s symptoms improve, and he admires Shen Jiangli. When she asks for the crossbow design, he generously gives her a copy.

Lu Jingming works hard to train the Jinlin Guards. To help her husband surpass his brother, Shen Jiangli provides him with two large boxes of gold, silver, and jewelry to fund weapon production. Lu Jingming is overjoyed by the exquisite design drawings, which allow him to fire many arrows at once, and he immediately plans mass production.

When the eldest lady hears that the second lady has returned, she goes to the master of the mansion and speaks ill of Lu Jingming. Lady Shu, however, is not to be trifled with, and a war of words ensues. The eldest lady wants to introduce her nephew Su Rui’an to Lu Jingming’s sister, Lu Qingqing. Su Rui’an is somewhat famous and behaves with dignity, so Lady Shu agrees to let them meet. Lu Qingqing is fond of Su Rui’an, who praises her unique makeup and says beauty is rare. Unbeknownst to Su Rui’an, Lu Qingqing’s face is injured, but it is covered with petals. This seemingly beautiful fate hides many unknown storms.

Episode 4

In Tingyu Pavilion, Lu Qingqing brings a group of people and insists that Li the Taoist priest help her vent her anger. Years earlier, Lu Qingqing’s face was mysteriously injured, and she believes it was caused by evil forces related to Shen Jiangli. Wang Danling, who dislikes Shen Jiangli, fuels the fire by telling Lu Qingqing about Shen Jiangli’s return from the ancestral tomb and slandering her as someone who uses fox magic and brings unclean things. Lu Qingqing, being simple-minded, is easily deceived and rushes into Shen Jiangli’s room with Li the Taoist priest.

Shen Jiangli immediately understands the situation. She reminds Lu Qingqing that the person who hurt her face was not her, but Lu Qingqing, under Wang Danling’s influence, does not believe her. Li the Taoist priest pretends to be the envoy of the Immortal Wuliang and claims to have an indestructible body. He prepares to perform a ritual on Shen Jiangli to prove her “crime.” Fortunately, Lu Jingming arrives and stands in front of Shen Jiangli to protect her.

Li the Taoist priest insists he is right. Shen Jiangli challenges him, saying, “If you have an indestructible body, show us now.” Li puts his hand into a pot of boiling oil and emerges unharmed, frightening everyone. Shen Jiangli also puts her hand into the pot and is unharmed. She exposes the trick: there is vinegar in the oil pot, which has a low boiling point, so the oil floats on top and does not burn. The servants try it themselves and find it safe. Li the Taoist priest can only beg for mercy.

After the crowd disperses, Lu Jingming tells Shen Jiangli to be careful and to investigate Su Rui’an’s character. He does not trust the eldest lady’s intentions and asks Shen Jiangli to look into Su Rui’an’s background. Lu Qingqing’s disfigurement is pitiful. Shen Jiangli learns that the nanny knows who hurt Lu Qingqing and carefully catches the culprit, A Tai. A Tai is brought before Lu Jingming and, under pressure, admits that it was the eldest lady’s idea to harm Lu Jingming. Failing to harm him, A Tai shifted the blame to Shen Jiangli, which is why Lu Qingqing has been kept in the dark.

Shen Jiangli also investigates Su Rui’an’s background and finds he is not a talented scholar from Jiangnan but a fraud who cheats in exams and chess. She arranges for Su Rui’an to play chess publicly, and he is exposed as a cheater. Lu Qingqing overhears his wild words and realizes the truth, seeing him in a completely different light.

Episode 5

Shen Jiangli’s sharp observation exposes Su Rui’an’s plot, much to his shame and anger. He boasts about being the future emperor’s son-in-law, but Lu Jingming sternly rebukes him for his delusions, pointing out that the marriage is not finalized. Lu Qingqing also publicly denies any connection to Su Rui’an, thoroughly humiliating him. Lu Jingming orders his men to take Su Rui’an away. Shen Jiangli’s timely intervention saves Lu Qingqing from a scandal that could have ruined her life. Lu Qingqing’s mother realizes the danger her daughter was in, but still harbors resentment toward Shen Jiangli, fearing that the truth will only bring her daughter more sorrow.

Wang Danling, always scheming, tries to further sow discord between Lu Qingqing and Shen Jiangli. Shen Jiangli arrives and confronts Wang Danling, determined to reveal the truth about the lantern festival five years ago. She recounts how Lu Qingqing, desperate to go out, borrowed Shen Jiangli’s clothes and sedan chair. On the way, Wang Danling was harassed by ruffians, but officers arrived in time to save Lu Qingqing’s innocence. However, Lu Qingqing was injured and left with a scar. Shen Jiangli waited in the scorching sun for Lu Qingqing to return, eventually fainting from exhaustion. Lu Jingming carried her back and later brought the ruffian forward to explain the truth to Lu Qingqing—that all of this was Wang Danling’s conspiracy, intended to harm Shen Jiangli but mistakenly harming Lu Qingqing instead.

Lu Qingqing is shocked and cannot believe it. The ruffian reveals that Wang Danling’s maid, Hexiang, was present, but Hexiang has been missing for years. Shen Jiangli is determined to find Hexiang to uncover the full truth. She learns that Hexiang is suffering from facial scars, so she prepares a special scar-healing ointment for her. Lu Jingming is moved by Shen Jiangli’s kindness, realizing he misunderstood her five years ago. He tries to make amends by sending her pastries, but Shen Jiangli, still hurt, refuses his gesture.

Finally, Shen Jiangli finds Hexiang, who has been made deaf and mute by Wang Danling for knowing too much. Shen Jiangli brings Hexiang’s former teacher, who understands sign language, to help her communicate. Wang Danling is terrified when she hears of this, knowing her conspiracy is about to be exposed.

Episode 6

With Lu Jingming’s support, Hexiang gathers the courage to reveal the truth through tapping. She explains that the ruffian A Tai acted recklessly and, after making a mistake, reported to Wang Danling, who sneered and saw it as an opportunity to stir up more trouble. Wang Danling deliberately sowed discord between Lu Qingqing and Shen Jiangli, eventually driving Shen Jiangli out of the family.

Upon hearing Hexiang’s testimony, Lu Qingqing is thunderstruck, realizing she has misunderstood Shen Jiangli for years and regarded her enemy as a friend. She angrily denounces Wang Danling as a villain. Wang Danling, humiliated, glares at Shen Jiangli and swears revenge. Lu Jingming, present at the confrontation, does not take Wang Danling to see his mother, which angers Shen Jiangli, who coldly turns and leaves.

Meanwhile, Shen Qilan, Shen Jiangli’s sister, meets Wang Danling while shopping for jewelry. Wang Danling, disliking Shen Jiangli, treats Shen Qilan rudely, giving her a hairpin as if she were a servant. Shen Qilan realizes that her sister’s marriage has not brought her glory or wealth, but instead a difficult relationship with her sister-in-law.

Episode 7

In the carriage, Lu Jingming asks Shen Jiangli why she was cold to his father. Shen Jiangli explains the bitterness in her family—how her father is indifferent to her and her mother due to the influence of the favored concubine, Zou. She feels unwanted and out of place.

At the iron mine, Lu Jingming negotiates with his eldest brother to compensate Shen Jiangli for her lost dowry by giving her the mine. The eldest brother reluctantly agrees. Lu Jingming solemnly hands the mining permit to Shen Jiangli, who is touched by his sincerity.

That evening, under the moonlight, Lu Jingming buys all the flowers from a flower-selling boy and gives them to Shen Jiangli, who smiles—a rare occurrence.

At Lady Shu’s birthday banquet, distinguished guests arrive. Lu Jingxing and his wife Xiahou Yao present a sheep skull, explaining it is a spiritual gift from their people. Lady Shu is pleased. Wang Danling and her husband present a valuable red coral. Lu Jingming and Shen Jiangli present an embroidery of a crane, which is mocked by the eldest family for being stingy. Lady Shu is embarrassed and orders it taken away.

Behind the scenes, Wang Danling secretly approaches Lu Jingming, while Shen Qilan secretly meets the eldest young master. The Lu mansion is full of intrigue and hidden struggles.

Episode 8

Wang Danling, married to the eldest son, still covets Lu Jingming. Jealousy burns within her as she sees Lu Jingming and Shen Jiangli’s growing closeness. She confronts Shen Jiangli, who accuses her of not having children as retribution. Wang Danling, furious, jumps into the river, claiming Shen Jiangli pushed her. Shen Jiangli jumps in to rescue her, and a crowd gathers. Wang Danling accuses Shen Jiangli, who counters that Wang Danling is framing her.

Lu Jingming arrives and supports his wife, explaining that Wang Danling invited him to chat, and Shen Jiangli came to find him, leading to the misunderstanding. The eldest son, coveting Wang Danling’s family power, continues to support her despite the evidence.

Lu Qingqing, realizing she was deceived by Wang Danling for years, exposes her, recounting how she was disfigured and nearly lost her innocence due to Wang Danling’s scheming. Wang Danling pretends to be pitiful, but Lu Qingqing is unmoved.

Wang Danling’s father is ashamed, fearing a divorce. The eldest son, unwilling to lose the Wang family’s backing, continues to support her. That night, Wang Danling sees her husband and Shen Qilan being intimate, and discovers love letters between them, realizing they have been in secret contact for a long time.

Episode 9

Yaoyao, hearing of past misunderstandings, worries about her own relationship with Lu Jingxing. Life is unpredictable, and she fears being manipulated by others.

Lu Jingxing enters Tingyu Pavilion and sees a child—Yan—who looks exactly like Lu Jingming as a child. He is about to ask the child’s name when Lu Jingming and Shen Jiangli rush over, creating an awkward moment.

Yaoyao and Shen Jiangli go to the mountain to pick mushrooms. Shen Jiangli sees an old man with rare ganoderma and eagerly goes to pick them, asking Yaoyao to return first. However, this is a trap set by Wang Danling. Shen Jiangli steps on a mechanism and is in danger of being pierced by arrows.

Meanwhile, Yan suddenly falls ill and convulses. Shen Jiangli is frantic and puts him to bed. Lu Jingming learns that Yan has a parasitic disease and only the Thunder Pill can cure him. He realizes this is why Shen Jiangli asked for the pill earlier. Shen Jiangli is heartbroken and wishes to ask the Lord for the pill, but Lu Jingming warns her to stay calm, as the eldest son’s people are watching. He promises to find a way to cure Yan.

Episode 10

The Lord suffers from a severe headache. Lady Shu wants to help, but the eldest lady insists on letting Shen Jiangli try her acupuncture. After a few needles, the Lord’s pain is relieved. The eldest lady takes credit.

Shen Jiangli’s real motive is to obtain the Thunder Pill for Yan, whose condition worsens. She uses calming incense and acupuncture to help the Lord, who is grateful and offers rewards, but refuses to give her the pill.

Lu Jingming works tirelessly to improve the accuracy of the crossbow. The eldest son sabotages his materials, but Lu Jingming is prepared and presents a superior crossbow to his father and the envoys, impressing everyone. The Lord gives Lu Jingming the Thunder Pill and appoints him commander of the Jinlin Guards.

Lu Jingming gives the pill to Shen Jiangli, and Yan’s condition improves. Shen Jiangli prepares to leave for Dingfeng Pavilion with Yan, as agreed. Lu Jingming is sad but cannot break their agreement. He secretly buys a hairpin for her, hoping to keep her by his side. Shen Jiangli is also conflicted, torn between her feelings for Lu Jingming and her duty to her family. Both are lost in confusion as they face an uncertain future.

Episode 11

Shen Jiangli prepares to leave the Lu mansion with her son Yan Yan, who has grown deeply attached to Lu Jingming and wishes the “handsome big brother” could come with them. Shen Jiangli comforts her child, explaining that Lu Jingming has important duties and cannot leave. On the journey back to Dingfeng Pavilion, they hear rumors blaming Lu Jingming for recent disasters, spread by the embassy to undermine his position.

Shen Jiangli returns to the Lu mansion and confronts the Lord with evidence that the so-called “Grand Historian” is an impostor. She promises to bring the real master of Dingfeng Pavilion to prove Lu Jingming’s innocence. Lu Jingming secretly follows her to Dingfeng Pavilion, where he meets Shen Jiangli’s senior brother, Chu Zimo. Chu Zimo reveals how he rescued Shen Jiangli years ago when she was pregnant and alone, recounting her suffering after being cast out by Lu Jingming. Lu Jingming is filled with regret and sorrow for his past actions.

Episode 12

In the main hall, Lu Jingming exposes the conspiracy against him, revealing that the “Grand Historian” is a fake and that his elder brother, Lu Jingxiu, is behind the plot. The Lord realizes his mistake and punishes those involved, while Lu Jingxiu is placed under house arrest. The Lord now fully supports Shen Jiangli and Lu Jingming.

Meanwhile, Shen Jiangli’s mother’s former maid, Yun Niang, tells her that her mother was likely murdered—her death came suddenly after drinking medicine, which was later found to be poisoned. Shen Jiangli is devastated and determined to uncover the truth. Lu Jingming brings her books on poison to help her investigation. Meanwhile, Wang Danling, seeing Lu Jingxiu’s power decline, plots to regain favor by organizing relief efforts and winning praise from the Lord.

Episode 13

Zou Yiniang returns and announces the mistress’s plan to marry Qi Lan to Lu Jingming as a concubine, hoping to secure the Shen family’s future. However, Qi Lan is horrified and reveals she is in love with Lu Jingxiu. She begs Shen Jiangli for help, showing her a jade pendant given to her by Lu Jingxiu. Shen Jiangli agrees to help her sister, despite the risks. Lu Jingming overhears their conversation and angrily insists he only wants to be with Shen Jiangli.

At a family gathering, the mistress and Wang Danling push for Qi Lan to marry Lu Jingming, but Shen Jiangli and Lu Jingming publicly refuse, with Shen Jiangli revealing Qi Lan’s relationship with Lu Jingxiu by showing the jade pendant. The Lord agrees to let Lu Jingxiu take Qi Lan as a concubine, much to Wang Danling’s dismay. Qi Lan is overjoyed, while Shen Jiangli and Lu Jingming return home, where Lu Jingming comforts her as she grieves for her mother and misses Yan Yan.

Episode 14

It is Qi Lan’s wedding day, and the Shen household is full of celebration. Shen Jiangli congratulates her sister, but Zou Yiniang is rude and dismissive, causing tension. Shen Jiangli recalls her own unhappy wedding night and leaves to investigate her mother’s death. She secretly visits Tian Yiniang’s room and finds her mother’s bracelet, raising suspicions. Meanwhile, Wang Danling’s maid delivers a damaged wedding dress to Qi Lan, attempting to embarrass her.

Shen Jiangli intervenes and helps Qi Lan wear a proper dress, saving her from humiliation. At the wedding banquet, Wang Danling tries to expose Qi Lan for wearing a main wife’s robe, but Shen Jiangli defends her, revealing the truth about the dress. The wedding proceeds, and that night, Lu Jingming redecorates their room as if for a wedding night, apologizing to Shen Jiangli for their past and promising to cherish her.

Episode 15

On the morning after the wedding, Qi Lan faces Wang Danling’s cruelty as she is forced to serve tea and endure boiling water poured on her hands. She is then made to balance account books and kneel for hours, fainting from exhaustion. Wang Danling plans to harm Qi Lan’s unborn child but is afraid to act openly. Meanwhile, Shen Jiangli continues her investigation into her mother’s death, finding toxic pills in the bracelet she recovered from Tian Yiniang’s room.

She is cautious, knowing this alone does not prove guilt. Late at night, her senior brother sees her off, and Lu Jingming, witnessing their closeness, becomes jealous. Lu Qingqing, seeing this, is secretly happy and determined to pursue Chu Zimo. Despite her suffering, Qi Lan soon discovers she is pregnant, bringing her joy and increased attention from Lu Jingxiu, while Wang Danling seethes with jealousy.

Episode 16

Lu Qingqing prepares a thoughtful gift for Chu Zimo, thanking him for healing her scar. Meanwhile, in the eldest young master’s household, everyone gathers around Qilan, who is being showered with attention—especially from the eldest young master himself. During the meal, Wang Danling brings a bowl of medicine for Qilan, which the eldest young master watches her drink. Soon after, Qilan experiences severe abdominal pain, and the doctor determines her fetus may not survive.

Qilan accuses Wang Danling of poisoning her, and her maid recounts past mistreatment by Wang Danling. A thorough examination of the medicine dregs reveals the ingredients have indeed been altered, making it dangerous for pregnancy. Wang Danling defends herself, but the evidence is undeniable. The eldest young master is furious and orders Wang Danling deposed and sent to guard the ancestral tomb. Wang Danling is left to regret her actions as her pleas for forgiveness are ignored.

Shen Jiangli visits Qilan after hearing of the miscarriage, bringing nourishing supplements. Upon arrival, she notices suspicious behavior from Qilan’s maid and finds bloodstained clothes and discarded medicine dregs. Shen Jiangli realizes Qilan was never truly pregnant and had faked the pregnancy and miscarriage to frame Wang Danling. She confronts Wang Danling, revealing the deception, and leaves the eldest young master’s residence. Lu Jingming waits for her and comforts her, reflecting on how personal desires and obsessions have led to these conflicts. Qilan, now triumphant, is unaware that her mother’s past actions against Shen Jiangli’s mother are about to resurface, casting a shadow over her victory.

Episode 17

Shen Jiangli shares her findings with Lu Jingming, suspecting someone else might be manipulating events behind the scenes. Qilan, worried about her position, sends her maid to find Lian Wantang, who has knowledge of the past. Shen Jiangli retrieves a bracelet from Lian Wantang’s mother, which contains traces of poison—the same poison that affected her own mother. Lian Wantang recalls her mother’s illness after wearing the bracelet, confirming the link.

On the day of the Shen family’s ancestral worship, Shen Jiangli confronts Tian Yiniang in front of her father, accusing her of poisoning her mother. Tian Yiniang denies everything, but Shen Jiangli slaps her in anger. Her father, who has always favored Tian Yiniang, slaps her in return, severing their father-daughter relationship. With Lu Jingming’s support, Shen Jiangli’s father is forced to send Tian Yiniang to the authorities.

Back at the mansion, Shen Jiangli feels that uncovering the truth was too easy and suspects something is amiss. Lian Wantang, eager to improve her social standing, tries to get close to Lu Jingming by dropping her hairpin near him. Lu Jingming returns it personally, leading to further interactions that raise questions about his intentions.

Episode 18

Lu Jingming takes Lian Wantang to a jewelry store, where she expresses interest in a set similar to Qilan’s. He orders a custom set, making Lian Wantang believe he is interested in her. She is invited to stay at his place, but soon realizes she is being closely watched. Lu Jingming reveals to Shen Jiangli that Lian Wantang is not as innocent as she seems and that her mother’s death is still shrouded in mystery. Shen Jiangli’s senior brother confirms that the poison in the bracelet alone could not have been fatal and that a heating device must have been involved.

Shen Jiangli searches Zou Yiniang’s secret room and finds a woolen cloak with heating pads sewn into the cuffs—evidence that Zou Yiniang used heat to increase the bracelet’s toxicity. Lian Wantang, under pressure, admits that Qilan threatened her mother to force her to blame Tian Xiaozhen. Shen Jiangli pretends to be exhausted by Lian Wantang’s advances, making Qilan lower her guard.

With evidence in hand, Shen Jiangli confronts her family, but her father still tries to protect Zou Yiniang. Lu Jingming arrives to support her, and Zou Yiniang is forced to admit her guilt, taking responsibility to protect Qilan. Qilan loses her father’s trust and tries to explain herself to Shen Jiangli, but is no longer believed. Zou Yiniang is sent to prison, and Qilan is left to face the consequences of her family’s actions. Shen Jiangli and Lu Jingming leave together, their bond strengthened by the ordeal.

Episode 19

After leaving the prison, Qilan rushed to Tingyu Pavilion to beg Shen Jiangli to spare her mother Zou Yiniang’s life. Despite Qilan’s desperate pleas and reminders of their past friendship, Shen Jiangli refused to forgive, unable to forget how her own mother had been killed by Zou Yiniang. Qilan then turned to the eldest young master, but he too could not help her, leaving Qilan powerless to save her mother.

Qilan visited Zou Yiniang one last time in prison, where her mother, seeing Qilan’s despair, realized the gravity of her own crimes. That night, Zou Yiniang took her own life. Overcome with grief, Qilan locked herself in her room for days, unable to face anyone.

Meanwhile, Yan Yan was brought back to the Lu mansion, and Shen Jiangli was overjoyed to see him. Now that Wang Danling had been sent away, Lu Jingming encouraged Yan Yan to call him “father.” The family arranged a little trick to bring Lu Jingming and Shen Jiangli together, allowing them to finally clear up their misunderstandings and share their painful pasts. Their estrangement melted away, and Lu Jingming promised to make it up to Shen Jiangli.

At the Lu family banquet, the Lord urged his sons to have children quickly, but Yan Yan’s existence was almost revealed before being quickly covered up. After the banquet, Lu Jingming’s mother visited Tingyu Pavilion and was delighted to hear Yan Yan call her “grandmother,” but was disappointed when told he was not her grandchild. She begged Shen Jiangli to have a child soon, and Shen Jiangli agreed. Shen Jiangli then asked Yulan to invite Lu Jingming so they could discuss whether to reveal Yan Yan’s true identity.

Episode 20

Qilan, desperate to secure her place in Lu Jingxiu’s heart, injured herself and prayed in the ancestral hall, deeply moving him when he discovered her devotion. This act led Lu Jingxiu to insist that Qilan become his main wife, and though the mistress was unhappy, she ultimately agreed for her son’s happiness. Meanwhile, Lu Jingming and Shen Jiangli discussed Yan Yan’s future, worried about his safety but believing he could no longer stay hidden.

They decided to bring Yan Yan to the Great Buddha Temple when the Lord visited, trusting he would protect the child. At the temple, Yan Yan slipped away and was found by the Lord, who instantly took a liking to him. Shen Jiangli and Lu Jingming revealed Yan Yan was their son, filling the Lord with joy. For Yan Yan’s safety, they kept his identity a secret for the time being. Lady Shu, suspicious of her husband’s recent absences, followed him and discovered Yan Yan, overjoyed to realize she had a grandson.

She insisted on keeping Yan Yan close, so Lu Jingming and Shen Jiangli decided to officially announce his identity. Yan Yan chose to stay with his grandmother, and Lady Shu welcomed Shen Jiangli warmly, giving her a family heirloom. Yan Yan was officially named “Lu Zhaoyan” and added to the family register, with the Lord and Lady Shu doting on him and arranging for his education. While the family celebrated Yan Yan’s inclusion, others like the mistress and Qilan felt jealousy and suspicion, as Qilan realized her new status did not erase her insecurities.

Episode 21

After leaving the prison, Qilan returns to the family estate, but her life is overshadowed by the ongoing crisis surrounding Yan Yan’s identity. The Lord of Dongzhou, overjoyed to have a grandson, often takes Yan Yan out to play. During one such occasion, Yan Yan slips away while the Lord is greeting guests and is found by Shen Qilan, who introduces herself as Shen Jiangli’s younger sister. Shen Qilan acts kindly at first, helping Yan Yan catch fireflies by the lake, but her intentions are unclear. When Lu Jingming and Shen Jiangli find them, they are deeply concerned and warn Shen Qilan not to harm Yan Yan, subtly hinting at the brewing tension within the family.

At night, the sky lights up with fireworks. Lu Jingxiu and Qilan watch from a distance; Lu Jingxiu, filled with envy and sadness, is comforted by Qilan, who holds his hand as they quietly leave. Nearby, Chu Zimo and Lu Qingqing also enjoy the spectacle, though Chu Zimo must soon depart, leaving Lu Qingqing reluctant to see him go.

The next day, Lu Jingming and Shen Jiangli take Yan Yan to school, where the Lord and Lady Shu request Mr. Song to become Yan Yan’s teacher. The peaceful moment is shattered when a woman named Qing Niang suddenly rushes forward, claiming Yan Yan is her lost child. The mistress seizes the opportunity to accuse Shen Jiangli of stealing a child, pointing to the absence of evidence that Shen Jiangli was ever pregnant. A memorial tablet for “Shen Yan Yan” is found in Shen Jiangli’s room, fueling suspicion. The mistress concludes that the real Yan Yan must have died, and Shen Jiangli has brought in another child to impersonate him. The Lord, furious, confines Shen Jiangli and keeps Yan Yan with Lady Shu, while the mistress gloats over her apparent victory.

A test is arranged to determine Yan Yan’s true identity. When a rock is rolled toward Yan Yan in the garden, Qing Niang instinctively shields him, but Shen Jiangli and Lu Jingming argue that any mother would do the same. The Lord gives Lu Jingming three days to investigate. Meanwhile, Lady Shu is heartbroken but certain that Yan Yan is her grandson.

Lu Jingming sends people to investigate Qing Niang’s story in Pei Village. He also visits Shen Jiangli in prison, where they can only talk through the door. Both reaffirm their trust in each other, and Lu Jingming promises to stand by her side. Chu Zimo is called to testify about the events surrounding Yan Yan’s birth, agreeing to help after seeing Lu Jingming’s sincerity. The mistress continues to accuse Shen Jiangli, but Lu Jingming brings everyone involved to the hall for questioning, including a child Qing Niang claims is her son. However, Mr. Song confirms that the belt the child is wearing is not the one he gave to Yan Yan, casting doubt on Qing Niang’s story.

Episode 22

Lu Jingming intensifies his investigation, bringing forth the servant who changed Yan Yan’s clothes and Chu Zimo as a witness. It is revealed that Yan Yan’s uniform had been switched, causing Qing Niang to mistake him for her own son. Further investigation uncovers that Qing Niang’s child had actually died, and her grief has led to mental illness. The pavilion she mentioned had been demolished, further discrediting her story. Chu Zimo testifies that he rescued Shen Jiangli when she was pregnant and witnessed Yan Yan’s birth, providing crucial evidence of Yan Yan’s true identity.

Qilan’s maid, Fuling, confesses to planting the memorial tablet and aging it to frame Shen Jiangli. The Lord orders Fuling and the servant to be executed. At Lu Jingxiu’s request, Qilan is confined to her quarters. It is revealed that Qilan and Fuling had met Qing Niang while visiting Zou Yiniang’s grave and devised the plan to frame Shen Jiangli. Fuling, loyal to Qilan, takes the blame and is executed.

As the Peace Banquet approaches, the mistress insists that Qilan and Shen Jiangli organize it together. Lady Shu is worried about Qilan’s intentions, but the Lord gives Qilan a warning. Shen Jiangli chooses a golden silk handkerchief as a gift for the guests, but Qilan also wants the same one. When told it has already been chosen, Qilan confronts Shen Jiangli and admits her involvement in the plot with Qing Niang, warning that the real battle will be at the banquet. Qilan prepares literary performances, but the Lord rejects them in favor of entertainment, approving Shen Jiangli’s golden silk handkerchief and asking Lu Qingqing to prepare a performance for the guests from Xizhou.

The Xizhou delegation, including the princess Chu Ya, arrives. Lady praises Chu Ya’s heroic demeanor, while Chu Ya admires the gentle beauty of Dongzhou’s women. Before the banquet, Chu Ya witnesses Shen Jiangli’s kindness when she helps a maid who broke something, which impresses her. Qilan prepares cooling snacks for Lady and Chu Ya, while Shen Jiangli prepares tea to prevent discomfort. During the banquet, Shen Jiangli, Lu Qingqing, and Qilan perform together, receiving praise from the audience. Chu Ya also performs, and fireworks light up the sky as everyone celebrates.

Lu Qingqing watches the fireworks alone until Chu Zimo joins her. He notices her injured hand, which makes her happy. Chu Zimo reflects on how he has changed after seeing the woman he once rescued become strong and independent. Meanwhile, while Shen Jiangli is hanging lanterns, Lu Jingming is called away on official business. Chu Ya sees him and recognizes him as the person who once rescued her. Lady and Chu Ya arrive, and Shen Jiangli greets them, inviting them to rest and enjoy the lanterns.

Episode 23

On the day of the Peace Banquet, the women gather to enjoy the lanterns. Lady and Chu Ya are delighted, and Lady praises Lu Qingqing and Shen Jiangli for their work. Lu Qingqing prepares a flower banquet, which Chu Ya loves. The mistress praises Qilan for her hard work and the lotus lanterns she prepared. Everyone receives a lantern to make a wish. Shen Jiangli prepares sky lanterns with unique fragrances tailored to each person’s personality, which intrigues Chu Ya.

As Chu Ya reaches for a candle to light her lantern, her hand is badly burned. Lady is furious and blames Shen Jiangli, punishing her by confining her to her room. Chu Ya thinks the punishment is too harsh, but Lady insists they must show strength. Qilan visits Chu Ya, pretending to plead for Shen Jiangli but hinting that her lantern was tampered with. Chu Ya remains calm, trusting the Lord to judge fairly.

Lu Jingming rushes home when he hears Shen Jiangli has been punished. Shen Jiangli tells him she noticed white phosphorus on Chu Ya’s lantern, which caused the burn. Lu Jingming suspects Qilan and vows to find evidence. Chu Ya, meanwhile, has not forgotten Lu Jingming since their first meeting and believes he is her destined love. When Lu Jingming comes to apologize for Shen Jiangli, Chu Ya reminds him that he rescued her five years ago. They both realize they have been misled by past conflicts and misunderstandings. Chu Ya promises to investigate when she returns to Xizhou.

Chu Ya delays her departure, saying she wants to find a husband in Dongzhou. The Lord is happy to help. Qilan, thinking Chu Ya is interested in Lu Jingxiu, asks for leave to avoid trouble. Shen Jiangli is assigned to take care of Chu Ya and notices Qilan’s absence is suspicious. Chu Ya soon confesses her feelings for Lu Jingming, saying she stayed to find her rescuer. Shen Jiangli refuses on behalf of Lu Jingming, but Chu Ya is determined not to give up. The mistress, seeing Chu Ya’s high status, hopes she will marry Lu Jingxiu and tells Qilan to help make it happen. Qilan agrees, knowing it would benefit Lu Jingxiu.

Episode 24

Qilan returns from her meeting with the mistress, lost in thought. Lu Jingxiu, worried that she has been mistreated, comes to comfort her. Qilan lies, saying the mistress only wanted her to befriend Chu Ya, the visiting princess from Xizhou. Lu Jingxiu supports this idea, seeing Chu Ya as a valuable ally, and asks Qilan to understand his position, assuring her of his love. Deeply devoted, Qilan agrees to help and visits Chu Ya with food, inviting her to see the flowers at Lu Jingxiu’s residence. Chu Ya happily accepts. On her way out, Qilan encounters Shen Jiangli, and the two argue, with Qilan vowing to support Lu Jingxiu at all costs.

Shen Jiangli brings pastries to Chu Ya, who praises them and openly confesses her feelings for Lu Jingming. Shen Jiangli refuses on Lu Jingming’s behalf, but Chu Ya insists she will not give up. Shortly after Shen Jiangli leaves, Chu Ya suffers stomach pains. The doctor finds no poison in the food, but since Qilan also visited, she is questioned. Shen Jiangli realizes that Chu Ya had eaten fish earlier and then had licorice pastries, which caused the reaction. She prepares medicine for Chu Ya, who suspects Shen Jiangli of poisoning her.

Lu Jingming trusts Shen Jiangli and promises to investigate. They discover that Qilan had bribed Shen Jiangli’s maid, whose brother had gambling debts and needed money. The maid had put phosphorus on the lantern and tampered with Chu Ya’s food. The Lord, furious, orders Qilan arrested. In prison, Qilan reflects on her life, realizing how many wrongs she has committed for Lu Jingxiu’s sake. She hopes he will save her, but he instead gives her a key to escape, pushing her away. Heartbroken, Qilan sets fire to Tingyu Pavilion, but Lu Jingming stops her.

Shen Jiangli is devastated to see her sister in such a state. Qilan, filled with resentment, blames her fate and her status as a concubine. In her last moments, she calls Shen Jiangli “sister” and takes her own life with a hairpin. After burying Qilan, Shen Jiangli is overwhelmed with grief. Lu Jingming comforts her, saying it was not her fault. Shen Jiangli’s father comes to the grave but shows no sadness, only calling Qilan a disgrace. Shen Jiangli is disappointed in her father and leaves him with a warning.

Meanwhile, Lu Jingxiu invites Chu Ya to hunt, and she happily agrees, asking to bring the other young masters. Lu Jingxiu says Lu Jingming is busy but invites the third young master. Chu Ya agrees. Lu Jingming receives news that the spy he has been tracking has entered Lu Jingxiu’s residence and goes to investigate.

Episode 25

Lu Jingming meets with Chu Ya, who has discovered that Wen Du is behind the conspiracy. Wen Du admits that Lu Jingxiu conspired with him to fake conflicts and embezzle military funds. He also reveals that Lu Jingxiu leaked Lu Jingming’s battle plans and ordered his death. Although Lu Jingming had suspected this, hearing it confirmed is painful. He wonders about Lu Jingxiu’s true motives and decides to investigate further. Shen Jiangli feels a little jealous when she hears Lu Jingming has gone to see Chu Ya, but he confesses everything and asks for her help in uncovering the truth.

Lu Jingxiu begins to court Chu Ya, sending her gifts and showing her great attention. Chu Ya, wanting to investigate, plays along. Lu Jingxiu believes she is interested in him and becomes even more generous. His subordinates warn him that Chu Ya often visits Lu Jingming, but Lu Jingxiu is confident she will not settle for being a concubine. At a banquet, the Lord asks Chu Ya if she has a suitor. Chu Ya openly says she likes Lu Jingming. Everyone is shocked.

Chu Ya explains that she fell for him five years ago and is happy to see him again. She says she only befriended Lu Jingxiu as a friend. Lu Jingming stands up and says he is already married and will never take a concubine. Chu Ya says she does not mind, but Lu Jingming and Shen Jiangli only have eyes for each other. Chu Ya says she only spoke the truth because the Lord asked and hopes they will not mind. Shen Jiangli talks with Chu Ya alone, admiring her honesty and believing she will find someone who truly loves her. Chu Ya understands why Lu Jingming loves Shen Jiangli and wishes them happiness.

Chu Ya publicly rejects Lu Jingxiu, humiliating him. He is furious and vows to make Lu Jingming pay. He plots with his men. Soon, Lu Jingming’s camp is struck by a mysterious illness. Soldiers become ill, convulsing and vomiting. Shen Jiangli works tirelessly to find a cure. When she develops a remedy, someone needs to test it. Lu Jingming secretly infects himself to try the medicine. With their combined efforts, the epidemic is controlled. Lu Jingxiu, furious, poisons the medicine given to the refugees, causing many deaths. At court, he and the military doctor accuse Shen Jiangli of negligence. The Lord, angry, imprisons Shen Jiangli. Lu Jingming pleads for her but is also reprimanded.

Episode 26

Shen Jiangli is imprisoned and asks to see Lu Jingming, but the jailer tells her she has caused many deaths and even implicated Lu Jingming, who is also confined. Shen Jiangli worries about the patients who have only taken half the medicine and hopes to cure them before being punished. The jailer says no one will dare take her medicine now. Lu Jingming learns that Lu Jingxiu has used the money to support bandits and suspects Shen Jiangli’s investigation has put her in danger. He fears worse is to come and urges Chu Ya to return to Xizhou for her safety. Chu Ya refuses, saying leaving now would only cause more trouble at the border.

Lu Jingxing tries to visit Shen Jiangli in prison but is blocked by Lu Jingxiu’s men. He tells Lu Jingming, who is desperate to rescue her. Chu Ya suggests that if Lu Jingming marries her, he will regain influence and Shen Jiangli can be spared. Lu Jingming, though reluctant, agrees for Shen Jiangli’s sake. Chu Ya goes to the Lord and asks for permission to marry Lu Jingming. She says there is no proof of Shen Jiangli’s guilt and asks for her release, suggesting she can be a second wife. The Lord agrees, but Lu Jingxiu demands Lu Jingming divorce Shen Jiangli. The Lord says a divorce is not necessary but allows them to separate.

That night, Lu Jingming visits Shen Jiangli in prison. She is thin and exhausted, murmuring his name in her sleep. Lu Qingqing and Chu Zimo come to take Shen Jiangli out of prison. Shen Jiangli, who has dreamed of Lu Jingming visiting her, runs home to find the mansion decorated for a wedding. She asks Lu Jingming if it is true, and he admits he is marrying Chu Ya for political reasons, not love. Shen Jiangli is devastated. She begs him to tell the truth, but he insists he is serious.

Chu Ya and Lu Jingming appear together, always watched by spies. Chu Ya secretly invites a famous doctor to investigate the deaths. She is confused about how things have escalated so quickly. The doctor finds that Shen Jiangli’s medicine was safe; someone had added mirabilite to cause the deaths. Lu Jingming orders a thorough investigation. He gives Shen Jiangli the divorce papers. She asks if he really means it, and he says yes, unable to look her in the eye. Shen Jiangli leaves in anger, vowing never to see him again. Lu Jingming watches her go, heartbroken.

Lu Jingxing and his wife decided to stay in Dongzhou and learn from Lu Jingming. Life became peaceful. Lu Qingqing often visited Chu Zimo’s old residence, missing him. One day, she heard footsteps and turned to see Chu Zimo. He embraced her, and they left the world behind.

In the Lu mansion, there was no more scheming. Shen Jiangli and Lu Jingming worked together—he at the front lines, she at home, teaching and supporting the people. Dongzhou prospered. When Dingfeng Pavilion reported a plague, Shen Jiangli went to help. Lu Jingming supported her, saying she was more than just his wife—she was herself. He waited for her return.
