Episode 1

Shen Jiangli, under the orders of the Lord of Dongzhou, is married to the second young master of the Lu family, Lu Jingming. As border conflicts escalate, the Lord commands Lu Jingming to leave immediately for the mansion to discuss military matters. While he fights for the country, Shen Jiangli is framed for a crime she did not commit. Her mother-in-law, Lady Shu, locks her in the ancestral tomb as punishment. The true culprit is eventually revealed to be Wang Danling, the eldest daughter-in-law, who resents Shen Jiangli for marrying Lu Jingming and is herself behind the poisoning of Lady Shu and the destruction of her own beauty. Episode 4

In Tingyu Pavilion, Lu Qingqing brings a group of people and insists that Li the Taoist priest help her vent her anger. Years earlier, Lu Qingqing’s face was mysteriously injured, and she believes it was caused by evil forces related to Shen Jiangli. Wang Danling, who dislikes Shen Jiangli, fuels the fire by telling Lu Qingqing about Shen Jiangli’s return from the ancestral tomb and slandering her as someone who uses fox magic and brings unclean things. Lu Qingqing, being simple-minded, is easily deceived and rushes into Shen Jiangli’s room with Li the Taoist priest.

Shen Jiangli immediately understands the situation. She reminds Lu Qingqing that the person who hurt her face was not her, but Lu Qingqing, under Wang Danling’s influence, does not believe her. Li the Taoist priest pretends to be the envoy of the Immortal Wuliang and claims to have an indestructible body. He prepares to perform a ritual on Shen Jiangli to prove her “crime.” Fortunately, Lu Jingming arrives and stands in front of Shen Jiangli to protect her.

Li the Taoist priest insists he is right. Shen Jiangli challenges him, saying, “If you have an indestructible body, show us now.” Li puts his hand into a pot of boiling oil and emerges unharmed, frightening everyone. Shen Jiangli also puts her hand into the pot and is unharmed. She exposes the trick: there is vinegar in the oil pot, which has a low boiling point, so the oil floats on top and does not burn. The servants try it themselves and find it safe. Li the Taoist priest can only beg for mercy.

After the crowd disperses, Lu Jingming tells Shen Jiangli to be careful and to investigate Su Rui’an’s character. He does not trust the eldest lady’s intentions and asks Shen Jiangli to look into Su Rui’an’s background. Lu Qingqing’s disfigurement is pitiful. Shen Jiangli learns that the nanny knows who hurt Lu Qingqing and carefully catches the culprit, A Tai. Failing to harm him, A Tai shifted the blame to Shen Jiangli, which is why Lu Qingqing has been kept in the dark.

Wang Danling, always scheming, tries to further sow discord between Lu Qingqing and Shen Jiangli. She recounts how Lu Qingqing, desperate to go out, borrowed Shen Jiangli’s clothes and sedan chair. Shen Jiangli waited in the scorching sun for Lu Qingqing to return, eventually fainting from exhaustion. Lu Jingming carried her back and later brought the ruffian forward to explain the truth to Lu Qingqing—that all of this was Wang Danling’s conspiracy, intended to harm Shen Jiangli but mistakenly harming Lu Qingqing instead.
