When they decide to swap lives, their worlds are turned upside down.

Mi-ji (played by Park Bo-young), the younger sister, lives freely in the rural village of Duseon-ri, but is constantly compared to her older sister Mi-rae (also played by Park Bo-young), who works in Seoul. Contrary to everyone’s assumptions, Mi-rae is actually struggling and on the brink in the harsh reality of Seoul life. Upon learning about her sister’s difficult situation, Mi-ji proposes a secret pact: “Let’s switch lives for a few months!” This lie between the two sisters sets off a whirlwind of chaos that shakes both Seoul and Duseon-ri…

Yoo Mi-ji (유미지)/ Park Bo-young

The younger of the identical twin sisters, Mi-ji lives in the rural village of Duseon-ri, working odd jobs around the community without a proper occupation. She is constantly compared to her older sister Mi-rae, who works in Seoul, but Mi-ji has a bright and free-spirited personality. Upon discovering her sister’s harsh reality, she proposes a secret pact to swap lives, kicking off the twins’ web of lies.

(Park Bo-young will portray four different faces: Yoo Mi-ji, Yoo Mi-rae, and each sister pretending to be the other.)

Yoo Mi-rae (유미래) / Park Bo-young

The older of the identical twin sisters, Mi-rae works in Seoul and appears to lead a successful life. In reality, however, she is pushed to the edge by the hardships of city life. At Mi-ji’s suggestion, she goes down to Duseon-ri and lives as Mi-ji, experiencing a new life she never expected.

Lee Ho-soo / Park Jin-young

A top lawyer at a major law firm, Ho-soo has striking looks and an effortlessly cool demeanor. On the surface, he seems flawless, but in truth, he works harder than anyone else to lead an ordinary life. He is a high school friend of the twin sisters, with whom he once shared pain, and after a chance encounter with Mi-ji in Seoul, he gets caught up in the twins’ secret pact.

Han Se-jin / Ryu Kyung-soo

A novice owner of a strawberry farm. He has little talent for farming and carries a distinctly urban vibe. He becomes involved with Mi-rae, who is pretending to be Mi-ji in Duseon-ri, as her employer. His clumsy hands and suspicious air make Mi-rae’s instincts tingle. His true identity and story add intrigue to the drama.

Our Unwritten Seoul Plot summary

Episode 1

Yoo Mijee, who had to quit track and field due to injury and left her dream track too soon, is living in her hometown, Duson-ri, taking care of her grandmother and working as the village’s “professional laborer.” Meanwhile, her older sister Yoo Mirae always ranked first in school and is now working at a public enterprise in Seoul. Her mother Kim Okhee (played by Jang Youngnam), as well as the neighbor Ajumma Yeom Bunhong (Kim Sunyoung), constantly compare her to her sister and urge her to get a job, but this only makes her resent Mirae even more.

Contrary to what the villagers think, Mirae is struggling alone in Seoul. After helping a senior who exposed corruption, she becomes the target of workplace bullying. When Lee Hosoo visits the countryside and tells Mijee that Mirae seems to be having a hard time, Mijee, secretly concerned, uses her mother’s request to deliver side dishes as an excuse to go to Seoul and meet her sister.

When they meet after a long time, Mirae is strangely different and declares that she won’t go to work even if she gets hurt, which shocks Mijee. Worried, Mijee rushes to her sister and tries to catch Mirae, who is hanging dangerously from a window, but they both end up falling.

Mijee bursts into tears, feeling sorry and frustrated for not realizing how desperate her sister was, and angry at herself. Mirae comforts her younger sister and apologizes, and, feeling lost herself, she suggests they temporarily switch lives like they used to, each doing what the other did best.

“I’ll live as you, you live as me.” — One of Mijee’s famous lines in Seoul.

Episode 2

The first day begins as Miji and Mirae swap lives. To look like Mirae, Miji attaches hair extensions and dyes her hair black. Mirae, in turn, cuts her hair to resemble Miji. The two even exchange homes and cell phones, fully immersing themselves in each other’s lives.

Miji, who stays in Seoul, initially feels satisfied with her new idle lifestyle, thinking it suits her. However, as soon as she arrives at the office, she ignores the work instructions left by Mirae and, swayed by her boss’s sweet talk, volunteers for an outside assignment. She is tasked with delivering documents to building owner Kim Rosa, but Kim Rosa firmly refuses to accept the papers and sends Miji away. At work, Miji discovers that Mirae was involved not only in whistleblowing but also in a sexual harassment case. This revelation comes as a shock to Miji.

Meanwhile, Mirae, who has gone down to the countryside, starts working with farm owner Han Sejin. Sejin does not assign her any tasks but simply observes her. This reminds Mirae of her past at the company, where she suffered from isolation and the lack of work. Unable to hold back, she eventually vents her emotions at Sejin. Afterwards, feeling somewhat lighter, Mirae gradually begins to adapt to farm life.

The role swap is soon discovered. Their grandmother in the nursing home immediately recognizes Miji as Mirae and offers comforting words, asking if life in Seoul was difficult. Miji responds with tears. Another person, Lee Hosu, also manages to tell Miji and Mirae apart. While sharing ramen by the Han River—a dream from their high school days—Miji is eventually found out by Hosu, who had already suspected her due to his familiarity with her unique traits.

Episode 3

Hosoo realizes Mijee is not Mirae but awkwardly deals with the situation. Mijee and Hosoo recall their high school memories, and subtle feelings begin to grow. Mijee tries hard to persuade Rosa, but Rosa firmly refuses. Mijee is moved by accidentally hearing Rosa recite poetry from her past as a poet. When their eyes meet, Mijee quickly runs away, but later apologizes to Rosa and helps her clean, only for Rosa to tell her not to come again. Mijee feels uneasy in a love triangle with Hosoo and Jieun (a classmate), and after returning home, she calls Mirae.

Episode 4

Mijee attends a class reunion but feels uneasy because she is not Mirae. Mirae works at a strawberry farm in the countryside and faces conflict with Sejin and rumors. At the reunion, Mijee is mistaken for Mirae and struggles, then returns home and talks to Mirae. Mirae learns that their grandmother has been hospitalized and asks Mijee to transfer the hospital bill. Mijee worries about not being able to go to the hospital because of her Friday meeting with Rosa. Rosa injures her back and collapses the day before the meeting, and Mijee suffers a panic attack, receiving help from Hosoo. Hosoo confesses that his first love was Mijee, shocking her.

Episode 5

Hosoo ignores the doctor’s advice not to walk long due to his car accident aftereffects and joins the school hiking event. Mijee waits for Hosoo with mixed feelings, and Hosoo asks Mijee when his first love for her started. At work, Mijee is assigned to write a new business report and works all night. With Taei’s (a colleague) help, she completes the report but is criticized by the new team leader, damaging her self-esteem.

Mijee drinks and calls Hosoo, pouring out her true feelings from that day on the mountain. Drunk, she confesses her feelings to Hosoo without realizing it, and the next day, she doesn’t remember. Hosoo tells her everything is resolved. Mirae wants to quit the farm but starts to open up after Sejin’s persuasion.

Episode 6

Mijee submits her all-night report to the new team leader but is scolded for its low quality. She drinks with Taei for comfort and blames herself for not trying hard enough. Mijee asks Hosoo about the previous night, and they confirm each other’s feelings. Mirae, who wanted to quit the farm, regains her resolve after talking with Sejin.

Mijee notices a notice Rosa posted at home after her discharge, realizing Rosa has dyslexia. At a classmate’s wedding, Mijee and Hosoo, Mirae and Kyunggu (a classmate) all feel complicated emotions and confirm each other’s identities. At the wedding, Mijee reveals to Hosoo that she is Mijee, and Hosoo admits he already knew. They hesitate about their future relationship but confirm their feelings for each other more deeply.

Episode 7

Yumi-ji is assigned an important project at work. Despite interference and obstacles from colleagues, she solves problems in her own way. Mirae builds deep friendships with her coworkers at the complex and grows close to a farm owner named Han Sejin. Sejin opens up to Mirae about his dreams and wounds. Yumi-ji begins to gain recognition at her company. Mirae achieves small successes at the farm, gaining confidence.

Episode 8

Yumi-ji achieves great results at work and receives praise from her boss for the first time. Her relationships with colleagues gradually improve. Mirae’s feelings for Sejin deepen as they work together at the farm. The two comfort and understand each other’s wounds. Yumi-ji also grows closer to Mirae’s friends. The sisters discover new meaning in each other’s lives. At night, they think of each other from their separate places.

Episode 9

Yumi-ji uncovers the truth behind the whistleblowing incident at her company. She comes to understand why Mirae struggled and works to resolve conflicts with her colleagues. Mirae prepares a small festival at the farm with Sejin, feeling warmth from the village community. Yumi-ji raises her voice for justice at work, while Mirae demonstrates leadership at the farm. Both sisters grow in their respective places.

Episode 10

Yumi-ji resolves the whistleblowing case at work, earning the trust of her colleagues. Mirae supports Sejin’s dreams as they work together at the farm. Yumi-ji is tasked with an important presentation at the company and completes it successfully. Mirae starts a new project at the farm. The sisters gradually become fully accustomed to each other’s lives, each finding her own color in her respective place.

Episode 11

Miji had been unable to fix the doorknob at her childhood home for a long time. This was because she feared that if she completely closed the door, she would be trapped in the room again. Outwardly, she continued with her daily life, but in reality, her heart remained inside that room. In this episode, Miji honestly confides to Sangwol that her heart is still stuck in the corner of her room. It becomes clear that the reason she couldn’t fix the doorknob wasn’t simple laziness, but rather a fear of isolating herself again, which kept her from closing the door herself. However, Miji eventually overcomes her fear, closes the door on her own, and takes a step forward. She also realizes that her family has always been waiting for her outside the door.

Scenes of reconciliation among family members follow. Grandmother Wolsun confesses to her daughter Okhee the reason she left home in the past. She left to protect Okhee from her abusive father and lied because she was afraid young Okhee would want to return home. Wolsun admits that she treated her daughter coldly because she didn’t want Okhee to live as she did. Upon learning this, Okhee sheds tears, letting go of long-held misunderstandings and resentment.

The relationship between Hosu and Bunhong is also revisited. Hosu used to think he was a burden to his stepmother Bunhong, but recalls that after a major accident, he woke up and called Bunhong “Mom.” From that moment, Bunhong considered Hosu her real son and raised him as such. The two confirm a bond even deeper than that of a biological mother and son.

Mirae, with Sejin’s help, reports suspicions of corruption within her company to a journalist. This leads to an investigation by the Fair Trade Commission, throwing the company into chaos. Mirae quits her job and leaves a message for her reclusive senior, Suyeon, saying she was always there for her. Suyeon finds the courage to open her door and step outside.

Sejin suggests going to America, but Mirae declines and decides to continue strawberry farming on her own. The relationship between Hosu and Chunggu also changes. To prepare for his hearing problems, Hosu entrusts Mirae’s sexual harassment case to Chunggu, and the two build trust as senior and junior colleagues.

Episode 12

Before officially entering the investment industry, Mirae starts strawberry farming. She attempts to develop a new variety, but her first try ends in failure. After overcoming disappointment and trying again, she succeeds in cultivating high-sugar strawberries and feels the reward of farming. After the harvest, Mirae hints at a new chapter in her life, balancing romance and investment work through her relationship with Sejin. Sejin, having gained investment experience in the U.S., returns to Seoul and meets Mirae again, and the two look forward to their future together.

Yumi-ji receives a business proposal from Sangwol and an offer to farm together from Mirae. However, she rekindles her long-abandoned dream of going to college. After failing the entrance exam once, she tries again at a boarding academy and eventually gets admitted. After entering college, she decides to go to graduate school to become a psychological counselor. Hosu respects Yumi-ji’s decision and chooses to wait for marriage, and the two start living together, keeping it a secret from their mothers. Hosu learns sign language to assist in trials for the disabled and continues his life as a lawyer while waiting to marry Yumi-ji. His hearing does not worsen but does not recover to its previous state. Chung-gu praises Hosu and expresses affection, and takes on Mirae’s sexual harassment case, securing a guilty verdict against Chief Park. Chief Park receives a suspended sentence, is expelled from the company, and faces a civil trial.
