Second Shot at Love plot
Han Geum-joo, a talented automotive engineer, returns to her hometown of Bocheon after breaking off her engagement with Kim Joo-yeop. Rumors spread in the village that Geum-joo’s drinking caused the breakup, but in reality, she hides from her family the fact that her fiancé cheated and got another woman pregnant, pretending instead that she drank to end the engagement. Her mother imposes a “no-drinking” rule in the neighborhood for Geum-joo’s sake, and Geum-joo awkwardly reunites with Seo Eui-jun, her first love from the past. Surrounded by the gazes of her family and neighbors and restricted by the no-drinking rule, Geum-joo feels loneliness and confusion.
Still hurt and misunderstood after the breakup, Geum-joo gets drunk and ruins her grandfather’s memorial table, then wakes up the next morning in Eui-jun’s house wearing only her underwear. The night before, she had been walking drunk and was nearly hit by Eui-jun’s car, causing Eui-jun to injure his leg. The two grow more awkward and misunderstandings pile up, while friends try to reconcile them without much success. Geum-joo becomes increasingly dependent on alcohol, and her feelings for Eui-jun become more complicated.
Eui-jun misunderstands that Geum-joo broke her promise and went to Seoul to drink, but recalling how Geum-joo once protected him in the past, he decides to trust her again. However, he is disappointed when he sees her shopping with the refund from her canceled wedding. After learning the real reason behind Geum-joo’s broken engagement, Eui-jun regrets his hurtful words, and when Geum-joo breaks down in tears at her ex-fiancé’s wedding, he quietly comforts her. A flashback reveals that Eui-jun had confessed his feelings to Geum-joo during their college days.
Geum-joo is shocked to see her ex-fiancé’s wedding proceed with only the bride changed. She leaves the no-drinking camp, gets caught drinking by her mother, and, while running away, encounters Eui-jun. Geum-joo finally lets out the tears she had been holding back in front of Eui-jun, confides her true feelings, and falls asleep. The next day, Eui-jun suggests she take an alcohol addiction self-diagnosis test, and Geum-joo is diagnosed as addicted, but she declares, “I’m just a reasonable drinker,” and says she has no intention of quitting. Facing the bitter reality, Geum-joo makes a new resolution.
Second Shot at Love review
