Based on the popular webtoon of the same name, the So Ji-sub drama Agent Kim is a father-universe revenge action drama depicting the story of the world’s most ordinary dad who becomes the world’s most dangerous man to fight to reclaim his one and only daughter.
The screenplay for So Ji-sub’s Agent Kim was written by Nam Dae-joong, a writer who has demonstrated solid writing skills in works like The Last Ride, 30 Days, and First Ride.
Directing is jointly handled by director Lee Seung-young, who has proven his sensuous directing skills in Wonderful World, Tracer, and Voice 2, and director Lee So-eun, who will add freshness to the drama with a unique perspective.
Actor So Ji-sub plays Agent Kim, an ordinary employee at a small savings bank who is actually a former agent deployed on numerous special operations. He explained that while action in other works might be like a moth recklessly flying into a flame, Agent Kim’s action appears desperate because he wants to live and be together with his daughter.

A legendary human weapon whose name alone made North and South Korea, China, and Russia tremble hides his identity for 19 years and lives as an ordinary section chief at a small to medium-sized company, wearing glasses, working overtime, and walking on eggshells around his boss. However, the story begins as he reveals his true identity to protect his daughter. The So Ji-sub drama Agent Kim is based on the webtoon of the same name.
One day, a great ordeal befalls Agent Kim (played by So Ji-sub), who lives as an ordinary section chief at a small to medium-sized company. His only daughter, Min-ji, gets into a physical fight with a schoolmate, Joo Hye-ri, putting her at risk of a school violence crisis. The problem, however, is that the father of the other party, Joo Hye-ri, is Joo Kang-chan, the chairman of Juhak Construction, a large corporation wielding immense power in the region.
When the principal and homeroom teacher urge him not to escalate the issue and quietly beg for forgiveness before money and power, Agent Kim puts aside all his pride and everything else, kneels before President Joo, and begs for forgiveness. Unsealing: Codename 66, The Awakening of a Monster Dad
When his daughter remains unreachable all night, Agent Kim instinctively catches a whiff of trouble, goes to find Joo Hye-ri, and teaches her a lesson, demanding to know his daughter’s whereabouts. On the outside, he looks like a middle-aged man worried about hair loss, but in reality, this man’s true identity is Codename 66, the leader of the elite North Korea infiltration operation team Baekdusan Unit 1, whose very existence was considered a security threat in the history of the Republic of Korea.
His official record alone includes 17 deployments to North Korea, 5 prison breaks, 5 instances of being a double agent, 2 more prison breaks, and even an attempted assassination of North Korea’s top commander, to the point that China and Russia said, “Hey, we need to create a separate marketing team dedicated to that guy.” He was a walking disaster himself.

Evading the pursuit from his superiors and short on time alone, Agent Kim calls for help from his fellow bespectacled middle-aged dads, Sung Han-su and Park Jin-cheol, with whom he used to shoot guns back in the day. Former national gold medalist Sung Han-su seems like an ordinary Taekwondo studio director, but he is a martial arts master with the best kicks in the Republic of Korea. The Chase and Agent Kim’s Self-Reproach
Tracking the signal leads them to a high school, where Agent Kim sees a school bully, Shin Sung-ho, holding Min-ji’s cell phone with a pink heart keyring. With overwhelming physicality, Agent Kim gives Shin Sung-ho a lesson. Shin Sung-ho confesses that he just received it when it was passed on to a burner phone, found Min-ji’s picture on the wallpaper pretty and was looking at it, and when he saw that the call history only had “Dad,” he accidentally pressed the call button.

However, the truly heartbreaking twist lies in Min-ji’s messenger contents. Agent Kim thought Hae-ryeong was Min-ji’s irreplaceable best friend in the world, but learns that she was actually an abuser who treated Min-ji like a bread shuttle and extorted money from her.

A Living Min-ji and Joo Kang-chan’s Scheme
Gold Teeth, commissioned to dispose of Min-ji’s body, is a figure who was brutally tortured by Joo Kang-chan in the past, having all his teeth pulled out, and has only dreamed of revenge ever since. Unable to directly touch the big fish Joo Kang-chan, he bides his time. Upon hearing that Joo Kang-chan’s daughter killed someone, he decides to use this to his advantage.
He lies to President Joo that he threw her cleanly into the Pacific Ocean to set his mind at ease, but in reality, he intends to move Min-ji’s body to a cold storage warehouse and keep it as an absolute weakness to hold against Joo Kang-chan.
However, our Min-ji, befitting the daughter of a secret agent, possesses max-level survival skills and was alive, not dead. Regaining consciousness inside the cold storage, she grabs a frozen saury, strikes Gold Teeth’s head, and dramatically escapes.

Meanwhile, upon hearing that his daughter Hye-ri accidentally killed Min-ji, Joo Kang-chan, instead of morally reprimanding her, reveals his twisted paternal love, saying he loves her so much he wants to cover all her mistakes and telling her to trust only him. Then, when Gold Teeth tries to blackmail him using the secret of Joo Hye-ri’s murder, he devises a counter-scheme to frame Gold Teeth for the murder.
He then sends his secretary, Chief Nam, who possesses max combat power, to eliminate Gold Teeth’s gang. Beaten to a pulp by Chief Nam, Gold Teeth chooses death over being framed for the murder committed by Joo Kang-chan’s daughter, Joo Hye-ri, biting his own tongue and dying, but leaves a final message saying that Min-ji is alive, so they are doomed.
On the other hand, Min-ji escapes onto the road and shouts for help, stopping any car. Unfortunately, the car she flags down happens to be Joo Kang-chan’s, who was heading to the pier. Transported to Joo Kang-chan’s villa, Min-ji notices the photos hung there and realizes he is Joo Hye-ri’s father. She feigns amnesia, but the sharp Joo Kang-chan is not fooled and tries to kill Min-ji himself to completely cover up his daughter’s crime.
Just at that moment, Kang Guk-cheol surrounds Joo Kang-chan’s villa, where Min-ji’s GPS signal was detected. However, Joo Kang-chan’s political and business lobbying power shines through, and Kang Guk-cheol’s arrest warrant is suddenly cancelled by orders from the higher-up, Deputy Director Ma Je-ok. However, having anticipated everything, Kang Guk-cheol pretends to cause a scene as a distraction, sends his special search agents in through the back, and dramatically succeeds in extracting Min-ji from Joo Kang-chan’s villa.
The reason Kang Guk-cheol extracted Min-ji was not to save her but to use her as a hostage in a plan to control Agent Kim. Dragged deep into the headquarters of the Special Missions Bureau, Min-ji learns from Kang Guk-cheol that her father was a legendary spy and a monstrous human weapon who once shook both the Republic of Korea and North Korea.
Agent Kim’s Past and the First Meeting of the Three Middle-aged Men
In fact, born in North Korea, Agent Kim was forcibly enlisted in a North Korean operative training unit in his childhood, tricked by a lie from Ri Eung-ryeong, the ruthless North Korean authority, that they were selecting sports team members. There, he underwent brutal torture and life-or-death training, stripped even of his name, and was called by the number 73.
Through those hellish years, the one person who became his only friend was his peer, number 66, Park Young-kang. Park Young-kang gave Agent Kim rice balls and took care of him, telling him that while he might have forgotten his own name, he remembered that 73’s last name was Kim, helping him not to lose his identity thanks to number 66.
However, during their first operation, caught in a trap set by their superiors, a bomb explodes. Park Young-kang sacrifices himself, using his own body to shield his friend Agent Kim from the blast, and dies. Thanks to his friend’s last desperate cry for him to survive no matter what, Agent Kim’s life is spared. Later transferred to a secret military facility in South Korea, he takes his friend’s number, Codename 66, as his own name, determined to remember his friend for life.
About two years into his life in South Korea, he receives a mission to infiltrate the North, presented by his superiors as an opportunity to take revenge on his homeland North Korea for abandoning him and to be fully recognized as a South Korean citizen. However, this is a cruel plot by the South Korean government to use and discard Agent Kim.
With the change of government, the Blue House, uncomfortable with his existence, plans to permanently eliminate Agent Kim on North Korean soil as soon as the North Korea infiltration mission succeeds. Sensing this plot, Agent Kim successfully completes the infiltration mission and then executes all the South Korean agents who betrayed him on the spot, only to be captured again by the North Korean army this time.
Exhausted and wanting to give up everything due to the ceaseless betrayal and war, he endures severe torture, recalling the promise with his peer Park Young-kang, who gave his life to save him. Interestingly, around the same time, Park Jin-cheol, a South Korean soldier, is also moving to assassinate the same target under orders from his nation. Meanwhile, Agent Kim obtains intelligence that the target will check into Room 1406 of a hotel and tries to check into the floor just below or above 3 days before D-Day, but learns that both the 13th and 15th floors are already occupied. Park Jin-cheol is stationed on the 13th floor below, and Sung Han-su on the 15th floor above.
Consequently, Agent Kim checks directly into the 14th floor, the target’s floor. Anticipating the presence of wiretapping devices everywhere, he speaks into the air. He proposes to the unknown parties that since their paths overlap concerning the target, they should avoid wasting energy and settle the matter face-to-face at a bar near the square tonight.
Thus gathered at a bar in Harbin, the three men, deciding that clashing with each other during the operation would only be detrimental, attempt to establish a hierarchy through force, but are ambushed by a clueless Chinese gang. The enraged three legends put the hierarchy decision aside, pulverize the gangsters, and build a strange camaraderie, initiating a three-way joint cooperation.
The reason they decided to cooperate instead of arguing over who gets to kill the target was that the target’s security and protection were extremely tight-knit, and upon conversation, their operational styles and thoughts matched surprisingly and perfectly.
However, when they infiltrate to eliminate the target together, Agent Kim is confronted with an unexpected, massive truth. The woman he loved, Lim Yu-jin, is at the scene, and her true identity is that of an agent from a front company, a cover operation group sent by the North Korean authorities to thoroughly use Agent Kim.

Despite the brutal truth being revealed, Agent Kim still loves Lim Yu-jin and throws himself into danger to save her. Meanwhile, Lim Yu-jin, though initially ordered to approach Agent Kim to completely deceive him into truly falling in love, had genuinely fallen for him over time. She betrays her homeland and orders, siding with Agent Kim, and starts fighting alongside him, gun in hand.
In a desperate crisis surrounded by enemies on all sides, Park Jin-cheol and Sung Han-su, moved by the love between Agent Kim and Lim Yu-jin, block the swarming enemies and rescue the two who have become targets of North Korea. Afterwards, Agent Kim seeks out Jo Pyeong-gyeon, the owner of the Cheonhaecheon Pawnshop and a specialist in completely laundering identities worldwide, including all past affiliations.
Instead of giving Agent Kim a new identity to hide with, Jo Pyeong-gyeon calls the South Korean Presidential Chief of Staff and makes a radical proposal to establish an elite North Korea infiltration operation team, the Baekdusan Unit, utilizing Agent Kim. Pressuring the higher-ups by asking if South Korea could stop such a monster who once tried to assassinate North Korea’s successor if he decided to come down to kill the South Korean president after turning to the North Korean side, Jo Pyeong-gyeon’s plan succeeds, and Agent Kim goes to South Korea to become part of the Baekdusan Unit 1.
Meanwhile, unlike Agent Kim, who had a clear justification, Lim Yu-jin, a North Korean operative, lacked the justification to go to South Korea. Jo Pyeong-gyeon promises to resolve the issue within a few days and send her safely to South Korea. However, believing she would only be a lifelong burden to Agent Kim navigating the rough battlefields, Lim Yu-jin asks Jo Pyeong-gyeon to send her not to South Korea, but to a place where no one knows, for his sake.
After being separated from Yu-jin in this way, Agent Kim reunites with her years later, but they are forced to part again due to pressure from higher authorities. He later receives tragic news through Jo Pyeong-gyeon that Yu-jin passed away after giving birth to Min-ji. Lim Yu-jin’s final wish, left with her last breath, was for him to forget all the blood-soaked past and live solely as Min-ji’s father, to protect that child at all costs, to overcome any fear, and to fight and win.
In response, Agent Kim requests discharge from service, and his superiors assign him the near-impossible task of rescuing a VIP who has lost contact as a condition for the discharge. Agent Kim uses a tunnel he knows to go to North Korea and kidnaps the top authority, the Chairman, exchanging him for the VIP.
While Agent Kim plunges into enemy territory, fearing that North Korea might take the newborn Min-ji, left alone in a hospital, as a hostage, Sung Han-su risks danger to receive Min-ji in advance and protect her safely, while Park Jin-cheol secures an escape route, perfectly covering Agent Kim’s rear.
She learns that she is the precious fruit that three monstrous dads who once shook the world protected by working together, solely to safeguard one single child. Upon realizing what pain her father silently endured all his life to hide his strength for her sake, Min-ji sheds tears of deep shock.
Direct Breakthrough at the Special Missions Bureau
Just as Kang Guk-cheol is about to use Min-ji to make Agent Kim submit, Sung Han-su, who had already infiltrated deep into the headquarters by hiding under the agents’ vehicles, reveals himself and instantly rescues Min-ji. Enraged, Kang Guk-cheol deploys the Baekdusan Unit, composed of the top 5% elite North Korea infiltration operatives, to surround them layer upon layer.
Right before Sung Han-su and Min-ji are subdued, in a moment of extreme crisis, Agent Kim’s signature specialty, sharp and transparent wires, glint from somewhere, turning the tables. It was him. At a speed impossible to follow with the naked eye, he extends his wires and wraps them around the neck of Ma Je-ok, the Deputy Director of the Special Missions Bureau, taking him hostage.
As the wire aimed at the Deputy Director’s throat gradually tightens with murderous intent, the swarming Baekdusan agents all halt their movements. Choking the Deputy Director, Agent Kim reassures his tear-streaked daughter that Dad is here, and it’s time to go home.
Here, another legend and war hero, Park Jin-cheol, whom Agent Kim had requested to accompany him in advance, joins the fray. As Park Jin-cheol blows up the parking lot wall with explosives to secure a vehicular escape route, the enraged Kang Guk-cheol shoots the hostage, Deputy Director Ma Je-ok, in the head and orders the elite agents to attack.
However, the three legends finally gathered in one place—Agent Kim, the monster of assassination and infiltration; Sung Han-su, the strongest martial artist in the Republic of Korea; and Park Jin-cheol, the war machine—take down all the swarming elite agents of the Special Missions Bureau. The three of them steal Kang Guk-cheol’s car keys, take his car, and speed away from the scene with Min-ji. Watching her dad’s and his friends’ reliable backs, Min-ji finally feels consolation deep in her heart.
Joo Kang-chan’s Destruction
Meanwhile, as a last resort, Joo Kang-chan sends Chief Nam, the secretary from the multinational mercenary company ALK, who is willing to resort to terrorism if paid. Chief Nam is an honorary escapee and the sole survivor of ALK’s system where one had to kill all team members to escape, making him a human weapon himself.
Chief Nam boldly kidnaps the entire car carrying Agent Kim’s group, but is pulverized into dust before the merciless firepower of the predator Park Jin-cheol, who embodies the ethos, “Anyone blocking my friend’s path is dead.” When Agent Kim eliminates all obstacles and reaches him, Joo Kang-chan, acknowledging his skill, proposes he work for him with an annual salary of 100 million won, only to get beaten senseless.
Crushed under Agent Kim’s relentless fists, Joo Kang-chan threatens to socially bury him, flaunting his extensive list of high-profile political and business contacts. Agent Kim scoffs and calls Jo Pyeong-gyeon, requesting the dissolution of Juhak Construction.
Receiving a call from his legal team that Juhak Construction is instantly disintegrating into thin air due to Jo Pyeong-gyeon’s influence, Joo Kang-chan despairs. Agent Kim conveys his resolve that he will cast aside all morals and guilt to protect his daughter, and that if he can become a proud father to his daughter, he doesn’t mind being a shameless father outside. Only after hearing Agent Kim’s words does Min-ji realize that it was she herself who never truly knew her father, and she finally understands his deep love.
After the incident is settled, Jo Pyeong-gyeon uses Juhak Construction’s criminal activities to buy the company at a bargain price, and Agent Kim moves to the Baekho Human Resources Office to earn more money. But the peace is brief, as an incident occurs where Agent Kim is kidnapped to North Korea.
When her father suddenly disappears, Min-ji frets and worries that something might have happened to him. However, seeing this, Sung Han-su and Park Jin-cheol smile warmly and reassure Min-ji, telling her not to worry because her father is a renowned madman when it comes to protecting his family.
Ending of Agent Kim Reactivated
When Agent Kim opens his eyes, the place he has been dragged to is none other than North Korea’s largest political prison camp. A villain named Baek Dan-yeol, who barely survived after being shot in the throat by Lim Yu-jin during the Harbin incident, is the one who kidnapped Agent Kim. In the original webtoon, Baek Dan-yeol sends his adopted son to infiltrate Min-ji’s school by pretending to be a transfer student.
Meanwhile, our Agent Kim had anticipated that North Korea would be tracking his movements and sharpening their knives after he wrecked the Special Missions Bureau last time. It was a notorious special prison designed to break a person’s mentality, a complete maze from which it was said no one could ever escape alive. Meanwhile, in South Korea, a state of emergency unfolds as Baek Dan-yeol mobilizes all resident spies in the South to simply kill Min-ji, whom he originally planned to use as a hostage.
At the very moment Min-ji is in extreme danger, Director Kang Guk-cheol appears with impeccably perfect timing. In fact, upon hearing the news of Agent Kim’s kidnapping, Sung Han-su had secretly contacted Kang Guk-cheol, knowing his eagerness to crush the North Korean puppet regime.
Grumbling about why he should help Agent Kim, Kang Guk-cheol nonetheless initiates a spy elimination operation, solely driven by the idea of legally sweeping up the North Korean spies who crawled out on South Korean soil, thus safely protecting Min-ji. With Sung Han-su needing to stay behind to protect Min-ji, there is a shortage of personnel to go to North Korea to rescue Agent Kim.
At this point, Park Jin-cheol plays a hidden card, calling Mr. Im, the laundry owner from their neighborhood. The seemingly warm and friendly neighborhood laundry owner, who always greeted Agent Kim on his commute, is revealed to be Park Jin-cheol’s former army comrade, a legendary fighter who once roamed the battlefields.
Moreover, since he was also a widower raising a daughter alone like Agent Kim, he understands the heart of a dad raising a child alone, and willingly shutsters his laundry and accompanies them to the battlefield to rescue Agent Kim. Inside the prison at that moment, a chilling event unfolds. His rage exploding, Agent Kim viciously tears the villain Baek Dan-yeol apart, killing him on the spot, as if severing all the links of the ill-fated relationship right there. But the joy of victory is short-lived; poison spreads throughout his body, placing him at the brink of collapse. Just as he is about to faint, trapped alone in the prison maze, men appear with impeccably perfect timing, breaking through the wall. They are Park Jin-cheol and Mr. Im, the laundry owner—some of the scariest dads in the world with daughters.
The two fighter brothers bomb and blow open the doors of the political prison camp, liberating all the unjustly imprisoned inmates at once. The prison is instantly overturned with riots and a coup. Using the ensuing chaos, Park Jin-cheol and Mr. Im carry the nearly unconscious Agent Kim, board a pre-arranged helicopter, and leisurely escape North Korean airspace.
Though his whole body becomes a bloody mess and he is poisoned, he returns to the arms of his daughter Min-ji, who is waiting for him.
Time passes, and Agent Kim encounters a group called the Black Market, an assembly of lawless individuals controlling the world. There, he shockingly comes face-to-face with his past benefactor, Park Young-kang, who is alive as a murderous weapon called a Closer, completely stripped of his emotions.
Having survived and become a member of the Black Market long ago, Park Young-kang had found Agent Kim’s whereabouts but only watched from afar, fearing his criminal identity would harm his friend who had built a peaceful family. When Park Young-kang tried to retire, the boss of the Black Market, King, forcibly injected him with a drug to erase his emotions.
During an intense fight with Agent Kim, Park Young-kang feels a deep bond and dramatically regains his emotions. Joining forces with Agent Kim, they brutally punish the Black Market boss, perfectly completing their first mission that had ended in failure in the past.
When Park Young-kang finally remembers and calls Agent Kim by his real birth name, Kim Tae-young, hearing his true name, Agent Kim paradoxically completely sheds his past. Having searched for his identity all his life, Agent Kim realizes it was never about a name, but the fact that he is Min-ji’s father.
Just as all fathers in the world choose the reality of a family more precious than their own dreams, Agent Kim willingly sacrifices himself for his daughter’s peace. Therefore, if anyone asks him again who he is, he will answer with a simple yet great name. I am Agent Kim.
