Mousetrap (2026) is a Netflix original crime thriller series based on the popular webtoon of the same name.
It is a chase thriller that begins when Moon-jae, a novelist who has been living in seclusion, has his name, his face, and ultimately his entire life stolen by an unidentified being known as “Mousetrap.”
One day, after failing mobile banking fingerprint authentication, Moon-jae comes face to face with the reality of “Mousetrap,” a mysterious figure who has taken over his name, his face, his home, and even his assets, and is now living his life.
Under pressure from the loan shark No-ja (played by Sul Kyung-gu), who is trying to recover his lost money, and Detective Soon-yong (played by Lee Kyu-hyung), who is investigating the case, Moon-jae sets out on a chase to reclaim his own life.
The story is a modern reinterpretation of the Korean folktale “The Field Mouse That Ate the Fingernail,” and deals with the theme of identity.
Ryu Jun-yeol took on a dual role for the first time since his debut, playing both the original Moon-jae and his double, Mousetrap, capturing the subtle gap between the two.
Sul Kyung-gu breathed life into the character of No-ja, who is both cold-blooded and deeply human.

Mousetrap Director Kim Hong-sun
Director Kim Hong-sun, who helmed the series, is a master of Korean genre filmmaking. He began his broadcasting career in 1996 as a producer in SBS’s entertainment division, and has since been recognized for his distinctive direction across numerous dramas and films.
He directed the films The Con Artists (2012), The Technicians (2014), The Treacherous (2015), Transformer (2019), and The Wolf Hunt (2022).

Under pressure from the loan shark No-ja (Sul Kyung-gu), who is trying to recover his stolen money, and Detective Soon-yong (Lee Kyu-hyung), who is investigating the case, he sets out on a chase to reclaim his life.

The identity of the organization threatening Moon-jae’s life and behind the theft of his life is revealed, and the culprit turns out to be Je Moon-jae — Detective Park Soon-yong (played by Lee Kyu-hyung). After a life-or-death struggle, the story ends with Moon-jae’s victory.
Netflix Mousetrap Review
Mousetrap is based on the webtoon of the same name by writer Ludovico, a modern reinterpretation of the folktale “The Field Mouse That Ate the Fingernail,” about a mouse that eats a discarded fingernail and drives out the real owner of the identity. Ryu Jun-yeol took on a dual role for the first time since his debut, playing both the original and his double. While the dual-role premise is compelling, the suspense as a thriller falls a little short of expectations, which is a slight disappointment.
